Outside Laboratory Usage

As an Internal Medicine Clinic, we offer a wide range of services in this office. This includes an in-house laboratory.  The income generated from that laboratory helps to support the salaries of multiple employees and maintain the viability of this clinic. Without that income, we would be unable to maintain our current level of services and staffing. 

In addition, by performing laboratory services within the clinic, we are able to track your results from visit to visit through our electronic medical records. This reduces the risk of lost reports and potential medical errors.

Insurance companies reimburse us very little for our office visits or cognitive skills. Primary care doctors do not have other means of generating income such as colonoscopies or surgeries.

The standard policy and procedure of this office is to perform all laboratory procedures in-house where possible. Unfortunately, labs performed within the clinic’s laboratory may be subject to deductibles and coinsurance amounts which are the responsibility of the patient.

We realize that some insurance companies are putting pressure on you, the patient, to ask for your laboratory tests to be performed outside of the clinic. They have made deals with various laboratories to provide those services at a lower cost to them. Unfortunately, we cannot honor these requests for the above reasons.

Patients who insist that their labs be done at an outside facility will be asked to find a new primary care provider other than this office.
